Eiffel Scholarships:

The French government's Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs created the Eiffel Scholarship Program. It aims to make it easier for French higher education institutions to draw top international students to their master's and PhD programmes. It also seeks to provide opportunities in priority study areas for future international decision-makers in the public and business sectors. The Eiffel scholarship promotes master's-level applications from developing nations from candidates up to 25 years old, and PhD applications from developing and industrialised countries from candidates up to 30 years old. Additionally, the scholarship has the following two parts:

  • Master's component: It provides support for a period of 12 to 36 months to assist foreign students financially in obtaining a master's degree from a French higher education institution.

  • Doctoral component: As part of a combined doctoral programme, it provides support for up to 12 months to international students to conduct doctoral research in France.

Eligibility criteria:

Now that you are well-informed on the Eiffel scholarship, let's look at the requirements you must meet in order to apply:

  • Nationality: The scholarship is only available to non-French citizens; hence, candidates who hold dual citizenship with France are ineligible.

  • Age: Candidates must be 25 years old or younger at the time of application in order to apply for the master's component. Candidates must also be 30 years of age or younger at the time of application for the doctorate component.

  • Targeted academic levels: As mentioned above, only international students pursuing master's or doctoral degrees are eligible for the award. Additionally, only programmes approved by the French government qualify. Candidates can speak with their preferred institute in French to learn more about the academic requirements as it is the organisation that will be submitting the applications.

  • Language ability: Candidates' language abilities must be sufficient to match the demands of the academic programme they are applying for. When considering applications from non-French speaking applicants, French institutions must guarantee the same.
